On Sunday 26 June, the 23rd annual clash between the Rockdogs and Triple R 102.7FM / PBS 106.7FM Megahertz will be fought out at Elsternwick Park with a headline concert from everybody’s favourite veteran, electro-pop, mischief-makers Regurgitator.

Other off-the-field entertainment will include a solo performance from legendary Mondo Rock and Daddy Cool frontman Ross Wilson, Total Giovanni brings the most sexually-charged discothèque this side of the tropic of Capricorn, the rock ‘n’ roll quintet who could melt steel beams The Sugarcanes pop their Community Cup cherry, Loose Tooth promise to be the best live show you’ve ever seen, and Rhys Muldoon (of Playschool fame) teams up with Spiderbait’s Kram to create the ‘rockingest’ and most well-thought-out kids’ band possible.

Regurgitator’s frontman Quan said:

Fanging to play the RECLINK cup! Rocking out then getting to watch sweaty humans play with their balls is basically the only reason we started this band.”

Tickets are on sale via Oztix and fans are urged to get in quick to secure their place, Reclink’s CEO John Ballis said:

Every year this event gets bigger and bigger. I wouldn’t say it’s because of the level of football played on the day, either. The calibre of bands in the line up, the community spirit and the entertainment on the field are becoming legendary.”

Reclink Australia supports some of the community’s most vulnerable and isolated people: at risk youth, those experiencing mental illness, people with disability, the homeless, people tackling alcohol and other drug issues, and social and economic hardship.

With humble beginnings in 1993, the Melbourne Reclink Community Cup now attracts more than 10,000 people and raises more than $100,000 for Reclink Australia each year.

The event’s success has been replicated in Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth, with Hobart and Brisbane joining the party for 2016.

For the past 23 years, the Melbourne event has attracted the who’s who of the community radio and music industries that support the event on stage, as umpires, players, volunteers, and patrons, including Paul Kelly, Tim Rogers (You Am I), Tex Perkins, Courtney Barnett, and more.

Last year, for the first time in many, Megahertz dominated the game, with the final scoreboard reading: Megahertz : 9.10.64, The Rockdogs : 5.7.37.

This year’s theme ‘Smells Like Team Spirit’ pays homage to Nirvana’s classic album Nevermind, celebrating the album’s 25th anniversary with a classically Australian, cheeky nod to the day’s sport skew.

The Reclink Community Cup is a fun family day out, encompassing live music, children’s activities, food and beverage stalls, and an opportunity for a grass roots kick-to-kick for crowd members during match breaks.
